Re: Re: Personal Growth: Selfishness or Responsibility?

Jes:
Thanks so much for sharing that (and for your nice feedback ;-)!
It certainly might make it easier to understand the "interference waves" idea. Imagine your brain is producing your music (and we'll make it your responsibility to have that be harmonious music ;-). Now my brain strikes up beside yours -- if a trained listener were there, they could separate the musical threads, but still we are making a larger piece between us. Now start adding more "musicians"....
I have this image of Data (from a scene in Star Trek: The Next Generation) listening to multiple orchestral pieces at a time. It sounds like total noise. One of the crew comes in and asks him to reduce the "noise". As he subtracts each piece, it becomes easier and easier to recognize the specific ones he is still listening to. For the crew person, it only makes sense when one piece is playing (one brain - ours - is thinking/feeling?), but Data can access and appreciate all the threads at once.
I'm going to post a review of a novel I happened to read over the weekend that plays with these ideas exactly - stay tuned!
And for those of you interested in the idea of EEG translated to music - here's the link from the Good Morning America interviewee: Brain Music Treatment.
Brain Music Treatment is not neurofeedback, but another technique called "entrainment". I'll write about that and the differences if people are interested -- let me know! ;-)
Thanks Jes for the Good Morning America information and for the enhanced ideas!
