I came across a great little video describing the different evolutionary layers of the brain. It's from a site called Global Mind-Shift, which looks like a promising site for those interested in the need and processes for creating a shift in how we all think and feel and act to create a better world.

Watch it here and then come back and let me know what you thought!

For the record, although the video talks about "three brains", we actually have (at least) 5 brains.
In addition to these "layers" of the brain in the head, we have independent brains in the gut and in the heart.

First, the head-brain:
The video presents the three bachelors as if we could choose to use different areas of our brains deliberately and consciously.
While we can to some extent "limit" our automatic responses with strong frontal lobes,
we can't help but use our whole brain in combination all the time. (Oh..and the "reptilian" brain is not the cerebellum, but the brain-stem...the point of the video is still made ;-).

As you will know if you've read my other posts, the heart-brain is the most important link for our head-brain. It communicates directly with the frontal lobes of the neocortex (which are the bits that do the things bachelor #3 was talking about as the "neocortex") and can provide an input of positive energy if we use it wisely. In fact, there is growing evidence that our head brain is a tool for the heart's brain... and what a mind-shift THAT would produce!: A Recipe for Personal Evolution

Of course, I see neurofeedback as a tool for training enhanced performance of the heart-brain (heart coherence), the frontal lobes specifically (HEG), and the brain as a whole (EEG).

In the next year, I plan to do a lot more writing on neurofeedback as a tool for personal evolution and to start my newsletter, Not Just Neurofeedback, sharing more strategies for moving us in a positive direction. I hope you'll come on over to my web site and sign up for it!

Please let me know your questions and what you would like to hear about in your search for a different way of being...

Best Wishes to all for a wonderful new year...
